Career Paths I Seriously Considered Growing Up

Jobs...jobs man. The necessary evil. As kids we all had ideas of what we wanted to be obviously. Here are some of the ones that I considered when I was a young fledgling:

1) An artist and writer

Does this really surprise anybody? At all? When I was 5 years old I couldnt decide.  So why not do both? I still want to be this when I grow up.

2) A dolphin

I have no idea how this one came about. I was probably around 5-7, probably went to SeaWorld, and thought to myself: I wanna do that! I wanna be that dolphin! Obviously, we dont have the science to do this yet. Pity.

3) A doctor

I considered this career for maybe 30 seconds while watching episodes of Scrubs. Being a doctor or a nurse takes a special kind of personality. One that I definitely dont have. Truth is, I just dont care enough about other people to put myself through that.

4) Astronomist

I still think about this one quite frequently. When I was picking out colleges, it was seriously between being an artist or being an astronomist. I often try to imagine how different my life would be if I had become a space nerd. Most people dont know this but back in the day when I was in high school, I was really REALLY good at science. And I'm pretty sure it started way back in the day in Kindergarten when StarLab came to our school and I got to go into it for the first time. Life changing.

5) Meterologist/Storm Chaser

I really liked the movie Twister

6) Volcanologist

Volcano units in school were my jam! And whenever I see a picture of lava, I have this ridiculous urge to want to dip my hands in it even though I know it'd melt my flesh in a nanosecond.

 7) 2D Animator

This didnt come until much later in life after I started to really look at Disney movie animation styles. The movie that probably started it all? Treasure Planet. My favorite Disney movie ever and for all time. The animation is gorgeous (Deep Canvas baby!) and hello! Space! Steam Punk! Pirates! Don't get me started on TP, that could be a mile long blog post just on it's own. If you wanted to look at Disney movies where I loved the animation (but probably wasnt aware of it at the time) there's Pocahontas, Hunchback of Notre Dame, Hercules, Mulan, and Lilo and Stitch. I am the type of person where if I go into a theater to see an animated movie and I love the animation, I may end up crying. Dont ask. It's just what I do.

Can we just pause for a second to look at the stunning quality of this gif?! Like...whoa!

Studio Ghibli movies were also a factor. I love the art style and Hayao Miyazaki has this uncanny ability to make food look effing delicious.

Ponyo, one of my fav Miyzaki movies
